Bebe Vio: The Italian Wheelchaired Fencing Champion

An Inspiration to All

Beatrice "Bebe" Maria Adelaide Marzia Vio Grandis is an Italian wheelchair fencer. Born with meningitis, she had both her legs and forearms amputated when she was 11 years old. She is a three-time Paralympic champion, having won gold medals in individual foil at the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Summer Paralympics. She has also won four gold medals at the World Championships and two gold medals at the European Championships. Vio is also a motivational speaker and has her own foundation that helps children with disabilities.

A Life-Changing Experience

Vio's life changed forever when she was diagnosed with meningitis at the age of 11. The disease led to her losing both her legs and forearms. However, Vio did not let this setback define her.
